The National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH) was established in 1864 and is the oldest body of practising herbalists in the world. Membership is by examination after completing a 4 year course of training that includes a minimum of 500 clinical hours. The institute demands that all members adhere to a strict professional code of ethics and practice and carry the letters of their qualification (MNIMH) after their name. These letters are a guarantee that you are placing yourself in safe, trained and caring hands.

The New Zealand Association of Medical Herbalists (NZAMH) is the professional body representing appropriately trained practitioners of herbal medicine in New Zealand, similar to the NIMH in the United Kindom. Member pratitioners conform to a similar professional Code of Ethics and continuing education standards.
