Herbal Medicine

What Is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal Medicine is the use of plant remedies in the treatment of disease. It is the oldest form of medicine known, and the origin of modern medicine. Today 75% of the world’s population still depend on plants as their main source of medicine. There is a growing body of scientific research and information regarding the therapeutic effectiveness of plant remedies that supports many of their traditional uses.

Medical Herbalists are trained in medical sciences and diagnostic techniques and combine elements of traditional herbal practice with the latest discoveries in scientific research.

As holistic therapists, herbalists do not treat the disease the person has, but rather the person who has the disease. As well as using herbs to relieve symptoms the herbalist will look to identify and treat the root cause of the illness. Treatment is individually tailored to each patient’s needs.

The Herbal Prescription

Herbal Medicines are made from the whole plant in order to produce a naturally balanced medicine that is easily absorbed and less likely to cause the unwanted side effects that are often associated with pharmaceutical drugs. The herbs are used to support the body’s self healing mechanisms in order to restore a balanced state of health.

Herbal prescriptions are put together from primarily organic herbs that are cultivated or wild crafted from sustainable sources. They may take the form of:·Dried herbs for herbal teas or washes;·Liquid tinctures and fluid extracts;·Creams and ointments.

  • Dried herbs for herbal teas or washes;

  • Creams and ointments.
A follow-up appointment will be made for 2-3 weeks after the 1st appointment and subsequent visits may be at longer intervals. In most cases I will be able to give you some idea of how long it will take for you to see the benefits of the herbal treatment. This may range from a few weeks to several months depending on the severity of your condition.
